Asante Kotoko had a historical day in Sogakope as the Cameroonian goal producer, Frank Etouga Mbella scored to record the first-ever away victory at Sogakope over the Academy Boys.
The awaiting Ghana Premier League champions recovered from two straight defeats to beat WAFA in a week 27 by a goal to nil.
The Academy Boys needed a win to restore their hope of escaping relegation but Prosper Ogum’s side showed no mercy in the game.
Mbella scored a 64th-minute goal to seal the first-ever away victory at Sogakope against the academy side in the history of the GPL and was substituted at the 90+4 minutes for Samuel Boateng.
Coach Ogum made some alterations as Charles Owusu entered into the starting eleven to make his second start of the season, replacing the suspended Imoro Ibrahim.
Mudasiru Salifu also earned a role in the first team today after coming on as a sub in their last game.
Elsewhere, Stephen Amakona slotted in for Afoakwa.
On the field of play, the home side laid down a firm foundation in the first half, preventing the Porcupines to score but the Cameroonian international overturned the game to separate both sides in the second half.
WAFA is struggling to escape relegation, sitting at the 17th position; three points behind sixteenth-placed Eleven Wonders in the relegation zone.
Kotoko is still in the first position with ten points above Bechem United, the second-placed team.
They have bagged 55 points after matchday 27 of the GPL.
