Aduana Stars and Medeama Sporting Club shared the points 1 each after the premier league week 27 match between the two ended in a stalemate at the Nana Agyemang Badu 1 Park in Dormaa on Monday afternoon.
Aduana Stars, who will be trekking to the Baba Yara sports stadium to face rivals Asante Kotoko in the next league game, were looking for a win over Medeama to cushion themselves ahead of the crucial game against the Porcupine Warriors, but the Yellow and Mauve refused to be pushed over as they pressed to earn a point.
The ‘Ogya’ lads took off to a splendid start into the game when they took an early lead through striker Bright Adjei with the clocking having read just 2 mins into the first half. The home side dominated the first 10 minutes of play, searching for a second goal but Medeama were resolute in defence.
The visitors registered their presence the more after the first ten minutes when Prosper Owusu found Ansu Kofi Patric in the opponents area in the 18th minute, but he failed to direct the ball into the net and Aduana Stars defenders reacted with a quick clearance.
Medeama kept the pressure until the 33rd minute when Aduana Stars conceded a free kick at the edge of the box. Fatawu Sulemana stepped up and curled the ball over the human wall to the left side of the top corner, beating goalkeeper Joseph Addo who stood still only to go and pick the ball from his own net looking stunned at Sulemana’s classic finish.
The two sides could not score any further goals till the 45 minutes elapsed and the referee blew for half time after a 4 minutes added time produced no goals either.
Medeama made double substitutions 14 minutes after the break, pulling out Justice Mensah and Agyei Boakye for the introduction of Kwadwo Asamoah and Theophilus Anoba. Joseph Tetteh Zutah and Samuel Frimpong replaced Kwesi Donsu and Medeama’s goal scorer Fatawu Sulemana in the 83rd minute to inject more energy into the game and in search for a winner.
Aduana Stars pushed more men upfront as they looked for a winning goal as well. Both sides failed to unlock the defence of each other, the 90 minutes elapsed and the referee blew for the end of proceedings after the 5 minutes of added time had nothing new to offer either. The game ended 1-1.
Having shared the points, Aduana Stars remain 5th on the league log with 41 points, whiled Medeama are 4th with 43 points.
