Aduana Stars Football Club have clarified the future of midfielder Prince Acquah, after the player’s contract with the club expired in the course of last month, ruling him out of any official matches for the club until renewal.
The midfielder left the camp of the club in April after his contract ran out on April 13 and negotiations between his representatives and the club broke down. As part of our investigations, ghanasportspage.com reported on April 22 that the former Asante Kotoko midfielder is no more with Aduana Stars following the expiration of his contract. We further reported, that while the player and his representatives wanted about two years of contract extension, Aduana Stars wanted a short term extension till the end of the current league campaign, so they open fresh negotiations at the end of the season.
We noted, however, that Prince Acquah’s camp couldn’t accept the offer tabled by the club, and that the player had left camp to his city in Sekondi Takoradi. Speaking to Evans Oppong, Communications Director of the club, he has confirmed that the club no longer has a contract with the player as we rightly reported earlier, but the club is still working on convincing him to renew.
“Well for now we don’t have a contract with Prince Acquah”, Evans confirmed to ghanasportspage.com.
“As you heard that’s how it is. The contract ran down. We tabled an offer to him that he should sign the new contract till the end of the season so we sit down and prepare a different offer of two years for him so we both sit down for an agreement, but I think Prince Acquah’s camp also have different ideas all together”, he explained.
Evans Oppong continued to explain why the player’s contract had to ran down completely at the blind side of the club.
“They also brought their counter offer but we both couldn’t reach a consensus for now. We are still on it, it’s not over because for now he has not joined any club yet but we’ve heard he’s gone home. We are still talking to him to return so we extend his contract for him to join us”.
”He is a very good player, he’s made a lot of difference in our midfield since he came but then when it got to a time that the results were not forthcoming for the club, all the focus and attention were on [getting] the results so it took us by surprise to see the contract got to that level”.
“It’s not over, we will continue and see how best we can reach agreement but for now, everything is possible with Prince Acquah; he could extend, he could also leave Aduana, but for us as Aduana FC are hopeful to reach agreement with him. Our first priority is to extend his contract for him”, he concluded
