Asante Kotoko will win the ongoing premier league title to end their seven seasons league trophy drought, according to former player Michael Akuffo.
Asante Kotoko have been the most outstanding club of the season so far, having been on top of the league for so many months now, and doesn’t look like losing the top spot to any other club till a champion is finally declared.
Accra Hearts of Oak are the current champions of the league, but the Phobians have had a rocky season so far, and do not look favourite to defend the title they won last season. Speaking to ghanasportapage.com, former Asante Kotoko player Michael Akuffo tipped his former club as the side to lift the league title, but has named Bechem United as the club which has been most impressive and as a discovery side.
Four clubs – Asante Kotoko, Bechem United, Aduana Stars and WAFA were the clubs tipped by Michael Akuffo to finish within the top four, with the Porcupines winning the ultimate, but his expectations on WAFA has been met with disappointment.
“Those who have surprised me well this season are Bechem United”, Akuffo indicated. “Bechem United are the team that have surprised me this season, but on one side I wouldn’t say they’ve surprised me that much because where I expected them to reach they couldn’t reach there. Because from the beginning of the season I tipped them, WAFA, Kotoko and Aduana for the top four, but it’s WAFA that have been behind”, he said.
However, he is impressed with Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars who have met his expectations so far.
“Aduana and Kotoko, it seems they are doing what I expected them to do and I tipped Kumasi Asante Kotoko to win the league this season. But the team that have surprised me this season is Bechem United because I was hoping that with the players they signed, the likes of Augustine Okrah other great guys they signed, I was hoping that they will go higher, like they will fight Kotoko for the league title but it couldn’t happen that way, so I will say Bechem United is the team that has surprised me more”, he added.
Bechem United are currently second on the league log behind leaders Asante Kotoko.
