Kumasi Asante Kotoko communication director, David Obeng Nyarko has urged the entire team and the fans to keep their focus on winning the Ghana Premier League first and stop tipping Etouga Mbella for the top-scorer award.
The PRO goes by the statement made by the GPL top-scorer, Frank Etouga Mbella after the game against WAFA and he insists the player does not have any competition towards the top-scorer award.
The player’s primary motive is to help the Porcupines to lift the trophy despite his fight to win the golden boot after the season.
He has scored 18 goals this season for the Reds but being chased by Ashantigold forward, Yaw Annor who has also scored 16 goals.
According to the club’s PRO, it is good for any player in the team to achieve great award at the end of the season but their focus is to win the league title.
“I remember after the WAFA game, one of the questions they asked Mbella was about number of goals he has targeted but the answer he gave was that his primary motive is to help Asante Kotoko to win the GPL. When the goal comes he will score. A little issue I have with this statement is that when we check the GPL Mbella has scored 18 goals and single handedly he cannot score the goals alone that means he’s had a support system assisting him. We should keep in mind that the most important thing is for us to win the Ghana Premier League. We shouldn’t be thinking about other things.
“Let’s stay focus. Mbella is a good striker and on any good day when he get good opportunity we know that he can convert it but we have to stay focus as a team and fight towards winning the Ghana Premier League.”
After he had said this, he claimed that it is good for Yaw Annor and others to be on the race for the top-scorer award and it will be good for the Black Stars to solve their striking problems whenever the service of this GPL players is acquired into the national team.
“It is good for our local league to witness the performance of Yaw Annor, Augustine Okrah and others.
“It is also good for our Black Stars. They are doing good and especially former Kotoko player, Augustine Okrah. He is also having a great performance but Mbella does have any competition.
