Prince Opoku Agyemang proved his striking prowess against King Faisal for Bibiani Gold Stars after he climbed off the bench to score twice to aid Gold Stars come from behind to beat King Faisal by 2-1 at the Dun’s Park on Sunday.
Gold Stars went down in the 45th minute when Samuel Kusi’s shot deflected Emmanuel Odai and goes straight to his own net to give the visitors the lead.
Coach Michael Osei’s men kept the momentum, pressing harder for the equalizer, and their efforts paid off in the 50th minute in the second half, when the referee awarded a penalty to the home side. However, the opportunity was blown off as Prince Owusu’s effort from the spot is saved by goalkeeper Frank Boateng to keep the scoreline at 1-0 in favour of King Faisal.
Firing power was missing in front of goal and coach Michael Osei quickly effected a substitution, when he introduced former New Edubiaase, Medeama SC forward Prince Opoku Agyemang as he searches for the equalizer.
It took the Black Stars B striker less than five minutes after his introduction into the game to restore parity for Gold Stars, bringing respite to coach Michael Osei’s side who are fighting harder to stay above the drop zone. Prince Opoku Agyemang scored in the 55th minute to bring the scores to 1-1.
King Faisal could not stand the pressure on their defence following the coming on of Opoku Agyemang, and had to give away their lead in the 81st minute when Gold Stars were shot into the lead through a Prince Opoku Agyemang brace for a 2-1 lead for the home side.
No further goals were scored by either side and the 2 goals from Opoku Agyemang were enough to win the day for the home side by 2-1. The win means Gold Stars are now 11th on the league log of 18 teams with 38 points.
Prince Opoku Agyemang has now scored 4 league goals for Bibiani Gold Stars since joining from Medeama SC in the middle of the season.
