Manchester City have been crowned the winners of the English Premier League for fifth consecutive time after a sensational victory over Aston Villa.
The last day of the campaign was set up to deliver a classic finish. Manchester City and Liverpool each sat on the league table with one point different prior to the final fixtures, and City held an insurmountable finish to lift the title.
Playing simultaneously, Liverpool saw a tough competition from Wolverhampton in the first half whiles City witnessed a 1-0 defeat in the first half following a goal from Matty Cash at the 37th minute.
Liverpool had to score an equalizer to keep their title hope alive after Pedro Neto had put the visitors on the lead before Sadio Mane stepped in to restore parity on the 24th minute.
During the second half, Countinho nearly betrayed the Sky Blues as he scored to put Aston Villa on a 2-0 lead but Pep’s side rallied for a dramatic come-back through brace from Ilkay Gundogan and the other from Rodri to finish with a 3-2 scoreline.
Liverpool also ended with a 3-1 come-back but it wasn’t enough for Klopp’s side to lift their third trophy of the season.
They won the game through Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Andrew Robertson.
The final day ended with Manchester City retaining their title in the most dramatic of circumstances, with a comeback from two down against Aston Villa to win 3-2.
The fans streamed onto the Etihad Stadium pitch, the players were mobbed and had to be plucked out of the mass by stewards.
City won the title by just a single point and had they not come back in this game, it would have been Liverpool’s title.
