Medeama Sporting Club have made known their objective to win the ongoing 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) title, drawing inspiration from Asante Kotoko’s defeat to Berekum Chelsea last Sunday, which gives them the hope of doing same on Monday when Asante Kotoko come visiting in Tarkwa.
Medeama were inspired to fight for the league title after Asante Kotoko lost 1-0 to 10-man Berekum Chelsea on Sunday, narrowing the point gab between the Porcupine Warriors and the Yellow and Mauve to 6. Asante Kotoko will travel to Tarkwa to face Medeama on Monday in the match week 31 encounter, and Medeama have vowed to beat the league leaders to bring the difference to 3 points.
In an interview with Takoradi based radio West Gold 106.3, Spokesperson for Medeama SC, James Bawah stressed that his side are poised to gun the Porcupine Warriors down on Monday as they hope to keep to winning ways and overtake them on the summit of the league log.
“We will beat [Asante] Kotoko, mark it from today, we will beat Kotoko”, Bawah told the host Evans Mensah Shearer on Monday. “Great Olympics when we went to beat them we knew that we went to play a drawn game at Ashantigold and we beat them when they came to Tarkwa, so if Ashgold were able to beat Olympics there in Accra, then we also knew we could beat Olympics”, he said.
James Bawah is so certain that for Berekum Chelsea to beat Asante Kotoko in Kumasi alone is an indication that they Medeama are in a good position to do same in Tarkwa on Monday.
“Now we [Medeama SC] went to beat Berekum Chelsea at Berekum so now we know we can beat [Asante] Kotoko here [in Tarkwa]. Berekum Chelsea have gone to beat Kotoko at home so it means at our home grounds we can beat Kotoko. Remember it’s extremely difficult to beat us in Tarkwa. To put the ball in our net in Tarkwa is extremely difficult and our goals scoring too doesn’t flow much, but for team Kotoko if we don’t give them two [goals] maybe it will be more than that”, Bawah analysed.
According to Bawah, the loophole Medeama were looking for in the league journey has arrived, and the remaining matches for the club are not that difficult matches to stop them from winning to clinch the title.
“Mark it that the chance we want in the league has come, and the remaining matches ahead of us are matches that are not difficult for Medeama Sporting Club to win. So if the point difference [between Medeama and Kotoko] is now 6 then it does not mean we can’t win the league, we will win it and we will beat Asante Kotoko including the other teams”, he insisted.
