The former Spanish Segunda División B player is back on track, doing a magnificent job in the Premiership for Ashantigold.
Former Ghanaian international and veteran manager Yaw Preko (Yaw Rush) believes the winger has the capabilities of playing for the Ghana national team.
He is the second top scorer in the league with 17 goals and just two goals behind Kotoko’s Etouga Mbella.
The former Bechem United player is pictured as one of the most prolific players in Ghana’s top-flight league this campaign, and the numbers back him up.
Yaw Annor has been sensational since joining AshantiGold in June 2020 simply becoming untouchable in the starting XI whenever he is fit.
Only two local players, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh of Hearts of Oak and Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah made their way into the senior national soccer team ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Central African Republic and the four nations mini tournament in Japan.
Speaking to Original 91.9FM in Accra, Coach Yaw Preko agreed with Otto Addo for inviting Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Augustine Okrah, claiming they deserve it.
“For the two players (Barnieh and Okrah) they deserve it. For now, I think that Otto is not here. He is also working in Germany. I don’t know who is scouting for him. If Didi is scouting for him then this is what he saw as the best for now.”
“For Yaw Annor, I will give him that opportunity at any given time because he has played outside, he has played in Spain and he understands football per his form and also scoring but the problem is what is surrounding his team now. I will not be shocked if he earns a call-up for now because he has what it takes as a right-winger. He can do it. I like him because sometimes he reminds me of what I was playing. After all, he is a typical winger. He can do the crossing, he can score when he is playing.”
ON OKRAH
“Everybody knows the capabilities of Okrah. He has played Local Black Stars and played abroad. On his day he is good. He is scoring and he is one of the best at the moment.”
Annor, only 24 years, has already accumulated experience in Spanish football having played for CF Fuenlabrada in Madrid and Burgos CF. After shining at Ghana Premier League side Bechem United between 2014 and 2017, Yaw Annor joined Fuenlabrada and featured considerable matches 30 as he netted 3 times for the Spanish side.
He is reportedly negotiating with the league leader Asante Kotoko for a move after the season.
