Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has commended his players for the win against Legon Cities FC on Matchday 31 of the ongoing Ghana Premier League on Sunday held at Tarkwa.
Coach Ogum disclosed that his players showed a strong mentality in the heavyweight battle against the Mauve and Yellow Boys.
They fetched the opener through a header from Andrews Appau during the first half.
The travelers went up 2-0 courtesy of the prolific striker Etouga Mbella in the 45th minute with a precise finish to put the warriors in a comfortable lead.
Despite playing with 10 men in the second half after a red card to midfielder Mudasiru Salifu, Asante Kotoko managed to hold the lead to see off Medeama SC with a 2-0 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
Coach Ogum did not bask in glory alone as he showered some of the praises to his players for applying discipline and knowledge to the game.
“I think they showed a strong mental character today. I mean the game was played mentally. If you look at how we kept our shape defensively and offensively, how we were able to get the first balls and the second balls and how we were able to exploit the spaces.
“It was amazing and I think is all up to the mindset. They had that character upstairs as far as the mind is concerned and they were able to transfer it on the field of play. And again discipline was it if you look at when we were down. We played the entire second half with a man down but we kept our low block very well in where we had to play. In the medium block too we kept the shape well. We glided and shifted to make sure that we close the spaces in front and behind us. So in all, I think it was all up to discipline and application of knowledge.” He told StarTimes after the game.
The leaders are a game away from lifting the league title should they pick three points against Great Olympics next weekend in Accra.
