Ghana’s World Cup 2014 goalkeeper, Fatawu Dauda has rated current Black Stars goalie, Joojo Wollacott based on his performance with the national team.
According to the ex-Black Stars goaltender, Wollocatt has great potential and will improve to become an asset for the national team with the techniques he is having after watching him on the first day.
After playing a key role in Ghana’s World Cup qualification, the Swindon Town goalkeeper was commended by Ghanaian fans and other professional footballers for helping Ghana to advance with a 1-1 draw over Nigeria following the awful performance at the AFCON.
Wallocott recorded a clean sheet last night when Ghana beat Madagascar by a 3-0 scoreline at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers opener.
After the World Cup qualifier play-offs double header against Nigeria, the Swindon Town goalie returned to win the English League Two Goalkeeper of the Season.
Speaking about Wollacott’s performance with the national team despite the AFCON failure, Fatawu Dauda ‘Lion’ made a clear statement that he rated the English-based goalkeeper on the first day he watched him whiles speaking on Accra-based Original 91.9FM as quoted by Ghanasportspage.com.
“I rated him on the first day I watched him. I saw that he is good. It is my department and I learn so I saw that he is a good goalkeeper and not just someone who saves a ball into the polls. As am talking to you when you play about five games and they give you the starting role, trust me you can make a lot of saves with different parts of your body but make a goalkeeper a goalkeeper or a complete goalkeeper. Your technique makes you a complete goalkeeper. Wallocott is having the same thing.” Fatawu disclosed.
In October 2021, Wollacott received his first call-up to the Ghana national team for the 2022 World Cup qualification game against Zimbabwe. He debuted with them in a 3-1 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification win over Zimbabwe on 9 October 2021. He was part of the Ghanaian team in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that was eliminated in the group stage of the competition.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper is aiming to lead the team for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, having benched Orlando Pirates number one, Richard Ofori and Lawrence Ati Zigi.
