Kotoku Royals have been promoted to next season’s Ghana Premier League for the first time after Liberty Professionals failed to beat Susubiribi on Sunday.
The Royals were held to a goalless draw with Tema Youth at the Tema Sports Stadium, becoming the 100th club to compete in the top-flight league.
Liberty Professionals needed just a win to make a return into the Premier League after Kotoku had ended 0-0 with Tema Youth but they also played a frantic goalless draw with Susubiribi Football Club in the Eastern Region.
After all, the Zone 3 champions topped the table with 63 whiles Liberty ended second with 62 points.
Kotoku Royals will be the first indigenous team from the Eastern Region in the league since Power FC were relegated in 2007.
The supporters of the club made a trip with 25 buses to storm the Tema Sports Stadium to back the team to make history.
They are also the second club to be promoted after FC Samartex.
