The Oda Sports Stadium is set to welcome top stars including reigning Ghanaian highlife musician, ‘Rock Star’ Kuami for the coronation game between newly promoted GPL side, Kotoku Royals and Susubiribi Football Club this Sunday, June 19, 2022.
Kotoku Royals defied all the odds to secure a historic GPL promotion from Zone 3 of the Division One League.
A crowd of just over thousands piled into Tema Sports Stadium to see the GPL promotion battle between Kotoku Royals and Tema Youth.
The Oda-based club secured a place in the Ghana Premier League for next season after a 0-0 draw on Sunday against the former GPL side.
Three teams, Kotoku Royals, Liberty Professionals and Tema Youth entered the final day of the season tied for the league promotion, with the Oda-based club holding a commanding lead. It was a day that almost nobody would have imagined some months earlier.
It was also a great moment. There had been times when the champions played well but failed to qualify—and there were other times in the just ended Division One League season when it looked like the title race might be over, yet they fought to make history.
This Sunday will be a remarkable day in Oda. The bankroller of the club as well as the chairperson of the Eastern Regional Football Association, Mr. Linford Asamoah, Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong among other traditional and opinion leaders will be at the venue for the celebration.
Kotoku Royals will be the first indigenous team from the Eastern Region in the league since Power FC were relegated in 2007.
