Former captain of Asante Kotoko, Amos Frimpong has told Asante Kotoko to maintain and augment their squad to make a meaningful impact in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The Porcupine Warriors will represent Ghana in the CAF’s top-tier club competition after lifting the GPL 2021/22 title
According to the 30-year-old defender, the club must maintain their squad for cohesion and understanding in the team for the journey.
“To be honest, you can see the difference between the team Kotoko paraded this season and our time. Am talking about the time Coach CK Akonnor led us for the CAF Confederations Cup because most of the players had stayed for a long time but this current squad is entirely new players that’s why am saying we were having some matured players comparing to this current squad,” Amos Frimpong told Ghanasportspage.com.
“I can’t say we were the better side but building a new team is always difficult to get the cohesion. Understanding will be there if the players had stayed for a long time than a newly built team.
“As am saying they are entirely new players, I believe that if the management are able to maintain this current squad and also strengthen the team I think that they can perform wonders going into Africa.
“I watched their last game against Elmina Sharks at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. I also had the chance to watch most of their matches and I know that with this current squad if they are able to maintain them and strengthen the team I think they can send Kotoko far.”
Amos, 30, played the porcupine warriors for seven seasons since.
He was a member of the warriors squad that defeated Arch rivals Hearts of Oak 3-1 to clinch the 2017 MTNFA Cup in Tamale.
The dependable right back was bought to fill in for the departing of Yaw Frimpong to TP Mazembe.
The Black Stars B defender joined Kotoko from B.A United and has gone on to win three Premier League titles and two FA Cups with the club.
Amos, after leaving Asante Kotoko joined AS Khaloum in Guinea before he returned into the GPL to play half season for Eleven Wonders.
The player’s current contract with Guinean Ligue 1 side, CI Kamsar expired at the end of the just ended season. He is currently free agent. However, he is optimistic of extending his stay with the he club.
