The Junior Squirrels of Benin hope of advancing into the final round of the the 2023 CHAN qualifiers were snuffed out on Saturday late afternoon when they lost 1-0 to Ghana in Cotonou.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was once again on target as he powered the Black Galaxies into a 1-0 victory to make it 4-0 aggregate scoreline to guide Ghana to advance into the next round.
Ghana who had finished the first leg 3-0 against their West African counterparts fulfilled their promise of snatching an away win in the return leg held in Benin.
The Black Galaxies won the first leg courtesy Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Mohammed Alhassan and Gladson Awako at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium last weekend.
Ghana have experienced mixed fortunes in the CHAN tournament – a biennial competition restricted to home based players, finishing runners-up in 2009 and 2014 but failing to qualify for the last three editions.
The team will face arch rivals Nigeria for a place at the 18-nation finals in Algeria.
