U-20 Women’s World Cup: USA annihilates Ghana in Group D opener

Black Maidens of Ghana have failed to secure a point in their group opener against the United States of America in the just started U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The Yanks snatched the maximum points with a 3-0 victory at the Estadio Alejandro Morera.

Captain Michelle Cooper opened the scoring account with a great header on the 11th to put the Americans on the lead.

The three times champions had the second goal on the 38th minute courtesy Alyssa Thompson before break.

Ghana fail to close their backyard as USA returned into the game to fight for the third goal through Allyson Sentnor to cement the victory.

However, Ghana finished the game with ten ladies after Jacqueline Owusu had conceded a red card on the 31st minute.

The Black Princesses will have to avoid defeat against Japan and Netherlands cross the line into the knockout stage for the first time.
