Former GFA presidential aspirant, Amanda Akuokor Clinton has highlighted on how women’s football can be developed well in Ghana.
The beautiful game of football has been graced and globally accepted as one of the few elements capable of uniting different and sometimes even opposing factions of society but it has been dominated by the male gender for decades and while a great deal of work has been done to increase football participation and interest among females much more effort is still needed in developing women’s football, specifically in Ghana.
Reacting to Ghana’s 3-0 defeat to the USA in the ongoing U-20 Women’s World Cup, the Ghanaian business mogul stated, “Yes, I did get the chance to watch the game but you know the USA has a lot of money and the resources in terms of helping the team to be developed.
“We tried and I think when we get the female head for the Ghana Football Association that’s where a lot of money would go into women’s football and it would also bring a lot of international attention.
“I think the football community in Ghana can capitalize on that whiles ensuring for instance the female head is partnered with people who do football on dad to day basis as well,” she told Ghanasportspage.com.
In 2019 Lawyer Amanda Clinton contested in the presidential elections of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), making her the first female presidential aspirant. On 25 October 2019, she lost the elections to Kurt Okraku emerging as the GFA president-elect.
At the end of the elections she showed her appreciation to Accra Hearts of Oak as they were the club that nominated and supported her quest to become the first female GFA president.
