Accra Hearts of Oak suffered a 3-1 defeat to Tarkwa-based Medeama Sporting Club in their first encounter in the ongoing GHALCA G6 competition at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Rainbows entered the game with their junior team but they struggled to face the Mauve and Yellow boys.
Medeama from the blast of the whistle introduced an outstanding performance, making early incursions in the Hearts of Oak area for the opener. This saw the visitors open the scoring in the 23rd minute when attacking midfielder Darlington Fosu unleashed a powerful low drive a few metres away from the box that found its way into the back of the net, stunning the homesters.
A few minutes later, Kwesi Donsu, the skipper of Medeama, saw his shot in front of the box deflected away from the area after hitting Hearts of Oak’s defender, Michael Sarpong.
Back from recess Hearts of Oak woke up from their slumber and took charge of affairs after Marvin Owusu and Isaac Wilson paired effectively in the area. They laid siege at the Medeama area and took advantage of an interplay between midfielders Richard Adjei and Daniel Owusu, and relayed a pass to their main attacker, Marvin Owusu, to slot home a goal to cut the deficit in the 57th minute.
The homesters kept probing for the equaliser and came close again when Michael Sarpong’s powerful volley missed the post by inches.
Hearts brought in attackers Nicholas Adjei and Rockson Samuel into the fray but they had little impact on the game.
