The Porcupines 26-year-old reliable defender has played no part in the Red’s pre-season to date due to problems with the management as reported.

Speculation has continued to rage in his absence as to whether he will compete in Africa with the GPL champions or not.

Reports gathered indicate that Ganiu has agreed to stay amid ongoing news which claims the player is seeking a move.

Ganiu was unable to travel with the squad for their pre-season tour yesterday due to personal reasons and a problem with the management.

The latest news reaching us has it that the player has agreed to stay and he will join his teammates after the Sudan trip which ends on September 1st after talks with the management.

The captain played one game in Kotoko’s last twelve fixtures of the just-ended season due to injury.

He is expected to lead the Porcupine Warriors with their new gaffer, Seydou Zerbo for the African campaign and the title defense ambition.

In October 2018, Abdul-Ganiyu joined the club on a three-year deal for Kumasi Asante Kotoko from Karela United. On 31 March 2019, he made his debut during the 2019 GFA Normalization Competition starting alongside Wahab Adams in defence as Kotoko defeated Aduana Stars by 1–0.

Three years after joining the club, on 7 October 2021, he was named as the new club captain by manager Prosper Narteh Ogum following the departure of Felix Annan and Emmanuel Gyamfi.

The reliable center-back’s contract with the Porcupines will expire in October 2023 after signing a two-year contract extension in 2021.
