Executive Council ouncil Member of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Randy Abbey has slammed Accra Hearts of Oak for using their junior side in the ongoing GHALCA G6 competition.
The Rainbows who won the FA Cup after beating Bechem United to book the ticket for Africa were expected to prepare their team for the upcoming CAF Confederations campaign with the G6 competition.
They refused to use their senior side but introduced their junior team which led to a 3-1 defeat to Medeama Sporting Club and a humiliating 4-0 scoreline to Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The EXCO member, Dr. Randy Abbey, who was the first person to advocate for the Top Six for Hearts of Oak to have enough preparations should they win the FA Cup has however expressed disappointment in the GPL giants, claiming they should have withdrawn from the competition.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday’s edition of Original FM’s Super Sports Show, he said: “If this is what Hearts of Oak were going to do then they should have withdrawn from the competition. To be very honest with you because if you can remember when I advocated for the G6, one of the main objectives was for the clubs to prepare for the upcoming season and those who will participate in Africa.
“Initially, we were having four teams participating in Africa but it was reduced to only two. It was two from the league and two from the FA Cup as well.
“I said if Hearts of Oak wins the FA Cup then I will be one of the people to advocate for ‘Top Six’ so that Hearts will get that preparation for Africa looking at the period between when the season ends, the mandatory one month rest and when the CAF competition restarts because Hearts participating in this competition has no relevance to their preparations for Africa. No relevance because of the team they used. They will be nowhere near the African squad.
“Incidentally, the same team Hearts of Oak is playing friendly matches using different players so what is it? Is that they are scared of the scoreless? At the end of the day, it is the name Hearts of Oak, it is the same club, the brand, and that tradition that is representing and playing in the competition so when taking the three goals and four goals it is Hearts of Oak.
“You don’t disrespect your team and the tradition that way. You don’t disrespect the organization that you belong to (GHALCA). You don’t even disrespect your supporters. You don’t do that.
“If you are not ready to participate, tell the organizers that we are sorry.” He stated.
