The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Yussif on Friday, 2nd September, 2022 visited Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II ahead of the National Fitness Day maiden edition.
The workaholic minister was accompanied by the Mayor of Accra, Hon Elizabeth Sackey, and his chief director, Alhaji Hafiz Adam.
In his courtesy call, they discussed about the National Fitness Day which has been organized to promote good physical and mental health, community and national cohesion etc.
The said activity was launched weeks ago at the Accra Sports Stadium’s Media Center.
The novel initiative will be held on second Saturday of every month at the national, regional, district, and community level with the maiden edition set to be staged on September 10 in Accra and across the nation.
As stated, the Minister for Youth and Sports said, “Earlier this evening, I paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, accompanied by the Mayor of Accra, Hon Elizabeth Sackey, and my chief director, Alhaji Hafiz Adam.
“The purpose of the visit was to officially invite the Ga Mantse to the inaugural National Fitness Day.
“I used the opportunity to explain to the King the objective and benefits of National Fitness Day. Among them are the following:
a. To promote good physical and mental health.
b. To promote community and national cohesion.
b. To create awareness about fitness and health issues.
c. To promote community sports and recreation.
d. To provide a platform for talent discovery.
e. To provide active patriotism, good citizenry and integration.
f. To help lower blood pressure and improve heart health. etc.
“The King and his elders welcomed us joyously, accepted our invitation, and encouraged us to spread the importance of physical activities to all and sundry.
“The inaugural National Fitness Day would be held on Saturday, September 10th in Accra and across all 16 regions. Subsequently, it will be held on the second Saturday of every month.”
