Former Ghanaian international, Tonny Baffoe has bemoaned how the World Cup trophy was welcomed by Ghanaians with no presence of some football legends in the country.
The trophy arrived on Saturday morning with Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku receiving the delegation at the Kotoko International Airport.
It was brought to Ghana by the ambassador and former FIFA World Cup winner David Trezeguet from France.
The absence of Ghanaian legends who participated in the previous competitions has pushed the current Deputy General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football to complain.
In a post sighted by Ghanasportspage.com on Twitter, Tonny Baffoe bemoaned, claiming the organizers could have done better by bringing legends like Stephen Appiah, Kwadwo Asamoah, John Mensah, Sulley Muntari, and others on board.
“The WC trophy landed in Ghana with David Trezeguet. There was no legend especially those who participated in the previous WCs for Ghana (Stephen Appiah-John Mensah-Asamoah Gyan -Sulley Muntari-Kwadwo Asamoah-John Paintsil) were present. The organizers could have done better.”
The trophy was displayed to the public on Sunday with fans of the Black Stars having the chance to take photos with the real prize at the Accra Polo Grounds.
The Black Stars qualified for the World Cup afplayoffstting rivals Nigeria in the playoffs in March.
And with a little over two months left for the Mundial to begin in Qatar, the 1964 Olympic Games squad member believes Ghana will be victorious.
