The 2022/23 season is off to the worst possible start for Accra Hearts of Oak.
Despite the arrival of new players, the Rainbows have failed to show any signs of improvement after a disappointing 2021/22 campaign in the top-flight league.
The Rainbows opened their season with a goal defeat to Aduana Stars in Dormaa, extending their winless run at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.
The game started in what promised to be a titanic clash with the beautiful and newly designed kits of the Phobians.
Just after 9 minutes, Samuel Boadu was shown the first yellow card for unsporting conduct.
Hearts who were hoping to start the season on a high note found it difficult to break the deadlock and it could have been the first time to pick the maximum points from Dormaa if they had won the game.
Although it was a stern test to both sides with the first forty-five minutes ending goalless draw the host fought hard for a vital win.
They returned with an impressive performance to secure the lead in the 49th minute through Bright Agyei who promised to make the Aduana fans proud before the game.
*What he said before the game*
“We promise that on Sunday the three maximum points will remain here and I can assure you again that it will remain here.
“I will also urge the supporters to come in numbers. It shouldn’t be one game. What they’ve done to us today motivates us and if there are no supporters things will not be successful.
“We promise that we will win the league for Dormaaman this season and we will not lose even one point in our home matches. Keep supporting us. We know what Aduana supporters can do. I promise that we will surely defeat Hearts on Sunday,” he stated in a meeting with the supporters.
Hearts of Oak came into the with some late minutes ruling but they were not able to start the season well, giving away the needed points to their opponent.
They also ended the game with ten players following the red card of their defender Caleb Amankwah who becomes the third player to receive a red card in the betPawa Premier League.
The Phobians have in the past five seasons failed to win their opening game of the season.
They will return to host Great Olympics next weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium while Aduana Stars travels to play King Faisal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
