Ghana’s Ambassador to Benin, Her Excellency Christine Churcher has commended the Porcupine Warriors after claiming a slim win over Rail Club du Kadiogo in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round in Benin.
Prior to the game, she met the team at their hotel in Cotonou to formally welcome and urge them to record a great win.
The deadlock was hard to break in the clash but through the late minute strike from Isaac Oppong, the Ghanaian champions snatched the maximum points in the first leg with a dramatic 1-0 win.
Though the Porcupines did not perform to the excellent level exhibited in the first leg but the end-to-end action saw them with the late strike from the youngster that inspired them into victory to enhance their chances of making it into the next stage.
Her Excellency Cristine Churcher, who was in the stands to witness the performance of the Ghanaian champions expressed happiness and commended the team in a meeting held after the game together with the CEO of the Porcupines, Nana Yaw Amponsah.
The Porcupine Warriors are expected to arrive in Ghana today and prepare for the return leg at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports on Sunday.
“Congratulations. I am more excited than you. For me, until the final whistle goes you cannot say your team has not won. I believe in that. When the final whistle goes then I give up but I was sure that you will score in the last minutes.
“You’ve done well. The victory is for the country. It is Ghana but not Kotoko. I pray that when you go you will do your homework well,” she said.
