Asante Kotoko have failed in their quest to advance to the next stage of the CAF Champions League preliminary round after losing 3-1 on penalties to Rail Club du Kadiogo of Burkina Faso.
The Porcupine warriors started off Sunday’s match on a strong note with Isaac Oppong’s dramatic goal in the first leg.
Kotoko however could not hold on to their lead as the Burkinabé side also came to secure a 1-0 victory, making it a 1-1 aggregate scoreline.
They were hoping to fight for another win following their slim win in the first leg in Cotonou last week.
But the Burkinabé side will now go away with a 3-1 victory from the penalty shootout and advance to the next stage of the competition. Thanks to Dramane Kambou who scored the only in the first half for the visitors.
Hearts of Oak are now Ghana’s only remaining club on the continental competition.
The Phobians will play the winner from the game between AS Douanes of Burkina Faso and Real Bamako of Mali in the Confederation Cup preliminary round clash.
