A two-goal thrilling result was produced at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as Ghana’s two biggest teams, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak played out a 1-1 draw in the first Super Clash of the season.
Yussif Mubarik was first to appear on the scoresheet as Kotoko took a goal lead before Hearts salvaged a point through Caleb Amankwa’s late equalizer.
The Porcupines called for a penalty during the 2nd minute after Agyapong galloped forward from the right and pushed down in the box but the referee ignored it.
Asante Kotoko continued with the pressure but Ayi forced to make a save from a goalbound shot on the sixth minute.
Hearts right-back, Yakubu Zakaria was given the first yellow card in the game for pulling down Isaac Oppong.
The Phobians came close for a goal but Obeng Junior was unlucky, saw his ball on the side net after receiving a pass from Isaac Mensah.
Asante Kotoko were the favourites to score in the first half with pressure piled on their opponent but the Rainbows defended well with series of blocks and ended with a goalless draw in the first forty-five plus two additional minutes.
Back from break, the game produced an interesting displays from both sides. The temp of the game was very high.
The Porcupines stepped up with their performance and got the opener on the 55th minute from Yussif Mubarik.
Kotoko’s lead was, however, obliterated on the 88th minute through Caleb Amankwa.
Both sides huffed and puffed in the second half with their respective goalkeepers standing resolute when called into action as the two title hopefuls settled for a draw.
Hearts of Oak sit 13th with 2 points, while Kotoko remain 14th but have played a games less than the Phobians.
