Ghana Premier League giants, Hearts of Oak look set to appoint a new tactician before their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round first leg against ASR Bamako in the wake of Samuel Boadu’s (surprise) sacking last Tuesday.
The 2020/21 GPL champions parted ways with the former Medeama SC gaffer after winning five trophies for the club in two seasons.
It has been reported that three local coaches, (Annor Walker of Samartex, Bismark Kobby Mensah of Karela United, Prosper Narteh Ogum, formerly of Kumasi Asante Kotoko) and one foreign coach, Erik Van der Meer are on the radar of the Rainbows.
Despite winning the MTN FA Cup last season, things have fallen off the rails and the management of the club is looking for the right person to lead the team going forward.
Now according to media reports, the board at Hearts is interested in the aforementioned four managers taking over the reins before their game against ASR Bamako on October 8th.
Prosper Narteh Ogum recently coached Asante Kotoko to the Premier League title and without any club, for now, he might be keen to take on a job that has seven Black Galaxies players, among others in the squad.
Annor Walker may also be wishful thinking as the Ghanaian coach has stated he’d like to manage the Phobians one day. He is the current manager of GPL returnees Samrtex after parting ways with Accra Great Olympics.
Elsewhere, Bismark Kobby Mensah’s name has also popped up on social media as one of the favorites but according to a close source, the Karela United manager has less chance to become the new manager of the Rainbows.
Finally, Dutchman, Erik van der Meer who has been linked to the technical director role of the club looks favorite with the upper over other coaches but the fans of the club are demanding a local coach to lead the club.
He has been in Ghana for the past weeks and was at the stadium when the Rainbows drew 1-1 with the Porcupine Warriors in Kumasi.
Van der Meer was later spotted at the team’s training complex in Pobiman on Tuesday alongside the top two board members of the club, Alhaji Akambi, and Hon. Vincent Odotei Sowah.
Hearts currently rank 14th on the league table with two points. They will host Bibiani Gold Stars when the league returns.
