Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei has disclosed what attracted the club’s management to appoint David Ocloo.
The former Asante Kotoko deputy manager was brought in as the assistant and caretaker of the of the Rainbows. He led the team to play in the CAF Confederations Cup double header against AS Real Bamako.
The 38-year-old’s last job was assisting Prosper Nartey Ogum at Kotoko, a job he left along with his boss, two months ago before the commencement of the ongoing season.
Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei reacting to the appointment of their interim manager claimed he attracted them with his qualification.
“When the regulators [GFA] said Samuel Nii Noi is not qualified for the job so going to Africa we were forced to appoint a new coach. Once Boadu left we had a lot of CV’s including David Ocloo. We checked his CV and what attracted us to appoint him was because he has done courses in video analysis and he was assistant to Prosper Narteh Ogum. He knew that he will become our assistant coach until a substantive coach comes in. Why should we let Boadu’s departure create vacuum in the team?
“Following his departure we announced that Nii Noi will lead as an acting coach before Ocloo came and when he came we announced that he is coming in as our assistant coach but will act as the head coach until the new appointment of a new coach. Someone may not understand what we are doing,” he told Original FM.
Accra Hearts of Oak have amassed two point from a possible nine after three matches in the new GPL season. Following those results, club faithfuls expressed concerns about the manner in which the team plays, and how some players have been deployed in the team which led to the departure of the ‘double winning’ coach, Samuel Boadu and his backroom staff.
They have picked just one win in their last five fixtures. Their first win came when they claimed a 1-0 victory over AS Real Bamako in the CAF Confederations Cup second preliminary stage return leg.
Having suffered a 3-0 defeat in the first leg, David Ocloo aimed to overturn the result but his side’s 1-0 win was not enough to take them into the next stage of the competition.
