Top Ghanaian defender, Jonathan Mensah is reportedly missing from Otto Addo’s provisional squad for preparations ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 31-year-old last played for the nation in June but suffered a head injury during Ghana’s game against the Central African Republic in the AFCON qualifiers and had to be rushed to a hospital in Angola. He returned to camp the following day but missed the Kirin Cup tournament in Japan due to the setback.

The Columbus Crew captain also missed Ghana’s international friendly games against Brazil and Nicaragua last month.

Per reports, Jonathan Mensah has been excluded from Ghana’s provisional squad which has been submitted to the Ghana Football Association.

The 32-year-old American-based Ghanaian defender has so far featured in 69 games in all competitions for the Black Stars and has scored one goal.

He marshalled the Black Stars’ defense during the 2015 AFCON second which they finished second after playing every minute of the team’s fixtures.

The former U-20 World Cup winner has been one of the regular players at the Black Stars camp but reports gathered indicates that the defender could miss the World Cup.

Otto Addo and the Ghana FA will in the coming days or in the next hours announce the provisional squad for the tournament.

The gaffer has been given the green light by FIFA to select 26-man squad for the upcoming mundial. He is expected to name his final squad before November 13.

The African giants look primed for an exciting tournament despite being drawn into an incredibly difficult group alongside former World champions, Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea.

Having failed to reach the 2018 World Cup, the Black Stars, led by former international player Otto Addo, now boast a significant wealth of new faces including Inaki Williams and and Tariq Lamptey who made their debut against Brazil.
