Top Ghanaian defender, Alexander Djiku suffered an injury and requested for substitution in Strasbourg’s 2-2 draw against Toulouse in the French Ligue 1 match on Sunday.
The 28-year-old central defender called for substitution in the 26th minute and having gestured for medical attention, he was replaced two minutes later by Julien Stephan.
However, the cause of his injury is unknown but he will be expected to recover before the World which kicks off after 28 days.
Alexander Djiku who has earned place in Otto Addo’s provisional squad is regarded as one of Ghana’s top defenders.
He has started all the twelve Ligue 1 games for Strasbourg this season, playing 83 minutes per game.
Having debuted with the senior national team, the Black Stats in a 3-0 friendly loss to Mali on 9 October 2020, Djiku has been one of Ghana’s regular players, marshalling the Black Stars’ defense with Daniel Amartey.
