Former Accra Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, and Great Olympics manager, J.E Sarpong has confirmed the influence of the management in player selection at the top clubs he managed.
The 76-year-old who assisted the late Cecil Jones Attuquayefio years back at the Ghana U-23 exposed the management, claiming they interfered in player selection.
J.E Sarpong, the former Hearts and Kotoko manager made the revelation during an interview with Ghanasportspage.com on Tuesday.
Did you face interference in player selection from the management? “Oh yes. Yes, they do that. The management does that,” he said.
You managed Kotoko, Hearts, and Great Olympics. Did you face interference at those clubs? “Yes, but it is the way you position yourself. People should know what you are and how you are. They can suggest. The management can suggest that you are in one boat but don’t let them overcome you. No, they will suggest but you too have a way of explaining it to them because you are the man on the court.
“You don’t have to throw them away. No, they are partners in crime. They can advise you and then tell you what you should do. Sometimes whatever they say may be true. You might not see everything but is not like you will throw what they will bring on board. That’s why you should be a man,” he told Ghanasportspage.com
The veteran Ghanaian tactician has appeared as one of the coaches to have managed the top clubs in the Ghana Premier League including Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, and Aduana Stars.
