Head coach for Bibiani Gold Stars, Michael Osei has reacted to his side’s painful defeat to Hearts of Oak.
The manager claims that his side should have maintained their 1-0 lead on Saturday but the red card affected them as the Phobians ran out 2-1 winners.
There was a feeling that Gold Stars could go for the jugular against Hearts, who began their season without victory. Coming into the game, the visitors had romped to a 1-0 win in their previous fixture against Bechem United but they couldn’t fight for their second win of the season.
A clever finish from Prince Owusu just after nine minutes looked to have been enough for the visitors, but with only 14 minutes left, super-sub, Isaac Mensah broke clear to equalise for Hearts of Oak.
There was still enough time for the Phobians to snatch a dramatic victory as Awako scored a sublime free-kick on the 87th minute to claim a comeback win.
However, Gold Stars goalie, Joseph Baah was stretchered off during the second period following an assault on Cameronian import, Yassan Outching.
An unimpressed Michael Osei was worried, claiming that the goalkeeper should have controlled his temper.
“I think it was a very difficult game. We all know and then we were better until the 60th minute red card. It’s very painful lose because it was a game that we were very organized, we frustrated them until we got that card but all the same we have to learn something about it and then we do better in the next game. This is the game that we were up. They couldn’t create a lot of chances while playing at home but very unfortunate that we conceded that card. It caused us a lot of problems.”
