Isaac Oppong, one of Kotoko’s enterprising wingers will sit back for their game against Alhaji Grusah’s King Faisal.
The Porcupine Warriors play King Faisal today in a much anticipated Premier League game, but Oppong won’t even be among the substitutes for the Kumasi derby after missing out on the 20-man squad.
The Ghanasportspage.com is on hand to explain why the youngster won’t be playing.
Oppong has played only five games in Kotoko’s last thirty-two fixtures in the local league and the CAF Champions League.
The enterprising winger scored a late winner for the Porcupine Warriors to mark his return to full fitness after struggling in the 2021/22 season due to injury setbacks during their clash against RC Kadiogo in the Champions League preliminary round first leg.
He was injured for the majority of the campaign last season as they won the Ghana Premier League, GPL title for a record-extending 26th time.
Oppong was in action when the team played against Hearts of Oak and Nsoatreman FC in their opening Premier League fixtures but the fans are concerned over his absence from today’s game.
We can confirm that the 19-year-old left winger is currently under treatment after picking up a light injury during the break.
He trained on Sunday morning with the team but he expected to recapture his form to be in the traveling squad for their outstanding clash against Bechem United.
“He is out because of injury but is not serious. He is training to recover,” a close source revealed to *Ghanasportspage.com*.
The 19-year-old suffered a setback in December last year during a league match against King Faisal.
Oppong later made a return but the medical team recommended knee surgery which was conducted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
However, some question marks are hanging over the player’s fitness despite playing in the team’s last four fixtures.
