Ghana’s minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Yussif has highlighted the preparation and participation of the Black to the parliament towards the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
The Qatar 2022 World Cup will be Ghana’s fourth appearance in the global showpiece. Ghana’s first appearance was in Germany 2006, where the Black Stars impressively reached the round of 16 stage following defeat to 5-time champions, Brazil. The Black Stars appeared consecutively in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014 before failing to reach Russia 2018.
A return to the global football arena affords Ghana the opportunity to showcase our nation, culture and football to the rest of the world. The occasion will also be a chance to better our highest performance of a quarter-final finish in South Africa 12 years ago.
According to the sports minister, the national team received $15 million from the Ghana Football Association to augment preparation after their qualification. The team will also receive $9 million for group stage participation in the competition, $13 million for round of 16 qualification and others.
