Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui announced today the list of the 26 players called to take part in the upcoming 2022 Qatar World Cup, notably including Abderrazak Hamdallah who left the team’s camp in 2019.
In September, Regragui announced the list of players expected to take part in the team’s upcoming matches, but there was a noticeable absence of Hamdallah, who did not feature on the squad list.
Since then, the newly appointed head coach has been under massive pressure from Moroccan football fans, who emphasized that the striker should feature on the World Cup squad list. Hamdallah has not played with the Moroccan team since he left its training camp in 2019.
The Head coach stressed that he has been keen to make decisions that serve the best interest of the team, explaining that Hamdallah was not “ready” as he was absent from the pitch following his suspension.
Regragui’s list for Morocco’s upcoming World Cup games includes goalkeepers Yassine Bounou, Munir Mohamedi El Kajoui, and Reda Tagnaouiti.
For the team’s line of defense, the new manager called up Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui, Nayef Aguerd, Romain Saiss, Achraf Dari, Jaouad El Yamiq, Yahya Attiatllah, and Badr Banoun.
He also called midfielders Sofyan Amrabat, Abdelhamid Sabbiri, Selim Amallah, Azzedine Ounahi, Bilal El Khannous, and Yahya Jebran.
In addition to Abderrazak Hamdallah, the national team’s forward line features Hakim Ziyech, Soufiane Boufal, Amine Harit, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Zakaria Aboukhlal, Ilias Chair, Youssef Ennesyri, and Walid Cheddira.
Regragui announced the news today at a press conference during which he expressed his determination to ensure a great performance from the Atlas Lions at the upcoming global tournament.
The coach also hopes that the Moroccan squad will display a remarkable performance and make Moroccan fans proud. He added that the Atlas Lions will leave Morocco for Qatar on November 13.
