Mother of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Comfort Akosua Konadu could not hold back her tears as he expressed delight in the achievement of her son.
Barnieh as reported earlier made the cut into Ghana’s final 26-man squad for the World Cup that begins on November 20.
In a video posted on social media, Madam Comfort Konadu expressed delight in the achievement of her son and stated,
“I am so surprised,” she told Tv3. “I am grateful to God for letting the national team take my son to the World Cup,” she added.
“I am very surprise, with so many footballers in this country and my son makes it, I am definitely shocked. However, nothing is impossible for God.”
The announcement of the final squad was made by the head coach, Otto Addo on Monday morning in Accra.
The Phobian led Ghana’s U20 to the youth Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2021 and was also the star of the Black Galaxies as they qualified for the CHAN tournament in Algeria.
Afriyie was handed his first call-up under former Coach Otto Addo into the Black Stars, ahead of Ghana’s 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup Group G qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa. He was one of the five home-based players to make the squad.
However, his colleague, Danlad Ibrahim had a shocking call-up alongside Lawrence Ati-Zigi as replacement for injured Jojo Wollacott and Richard Ofori.
