Ghana will for the first time in history play against Switzerland in an international friendly before their opening match at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.
The game will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Baniyas Club Stadium in Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates.
The match will give Coach Otto Addo a perfect opponent for the Group H opener against Portugal at the 974 stadium.
It wil complete the calendar of the Black Stars – going into the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament as underdogs.
HEAD-TO-HEAD AND KEY NUMBERS
With both Ghana and Switzerland fully focused on their World Cup adventure in Qatar next week, we expect their friendly fixture on Thursday morning to be a low-key tussle. The primary objective for both nations will be to avoid picking up any unnecessary injuries, so we don’t envisage either team going full throttle at the Al Nahyan Stadium and as such, we don’t anticipate a push for victory from either side. As a consequence, the best value in the result market is found in backing Ghana in the double chance market here.
• Ghana have not faced Switzerland in a friendly game in a long time.
• Their midfielder Mohammed Kudus has scored five goals in the Eredivisie for Ajax in five starts while Inaki Williams has six goal contributions in La Liga for Athletic Bilbao this season.
• Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka has also scored six goal contributions in the Premier League for Arsenal this season with attacker Breel Embolo has seven goals in Ligue 1 for AS Monaco so far.
The Black Stars have recorded two wins, one draw and defeat in their last five games while the Swiss national have also picked three wins and two defeats in their last five games.
Having defeated a team like Spain by two goals in their last road trip, Switzerland look favorite to beat Ghana, who are currently in an inconsistent form, with a better score than that.
Ghana also come into the game after beating 1-0 Nicaragua and 3-0 defeat to Brazil. A first-half goal from Sporting CP forward Abdul Fatawa Issahaku secured the win for Otto Addo’s side.
Switzerland, on the other hand, beat Jaroslav Silhavy’s Czech Republic 2-1 in their most recent game. First-half goals from Nottingham Forest midfielder Remo Freuler and AS Monaco attacker Breel Embolo sealed the deal for Switzerland. Bayer Leverkusen attacker Patrik Schick scored the goal for the Czech Republic.
