EPL side, Liverpool has reportedly been linked with a move for Ajax attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Liverpool is keeping tabs on Mohammed Kudus. And the Premier League giants could look to make a move for the 22-year-old Ghana international in the upcoming windows.
Kudus has been in impressive form for Ajax this season, and he has ten goals and three assists to his name across all competitions. It is no secret that Liverpool will need to add more quality to their attacking department. And Ghana international could prove to be a quality acquisition. He became the first player to score a brace for the Black Stars in the history of the World Cup after Ghana’s victory over South Korea.
The Reds are currently without attackers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota due to long-term injury woes. The two players will have to be eased back into the squad after the World Cup break, and Liverpool cannot afford to rush them. In this situation, Liverpool could use a quality attacking addition in January, and Kudus would be a good fit for their style of play.
The Ajax ace has already impressed against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League group stages. And it remains to be seen whether the Reds can agree on a fee with the Dutch outfit. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 22-year-old was close to moving to Everton during the summer transfer window, but Ajax blocked the move after several high-profile sales.
“The Reds have also been linked with Mohammed Kudus, but at the moment there’s nothing concrete on this one. Kudus was close to joining Everton in the summer, but the deal collapsed because Ajax wanted to keep their best players after so many other sales.
“Let’s see if Liverpool decides to make more than one signing in midfield, but for the moment I’m sure Bellingham remains their top priority.”
It remains to be seen whether the Dutch outfit is open to letting the player leave midway through the season. Liverpool has had a mediocre campaign so far, and they will need to finish the season strongly to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Bringing in the right additions during the January transfer window could certainly help their cause, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Meanwhile, Liverpool is keen on strengthening their midfield considerably, and they have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
The England international is likely to cost a club-record fee and Fenway sports group will have to make substantial funds available to Jurgen Klopp for him to pull off the transfer. It will be interesting to see if Kudus becomes a top target for Liverpool. For now, the 22-year-old is making his mark for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
