• Despite the victory, Uruguay will now be eliminated alongside Ghana, as South Korea won its game against Portugal 2-1

Ghana have been knockout from the FIFA World Cup for the second time in the hands of their continental enemies, Uruguay after twelve years in South Africa.

The Black Stars were hoping to overturn their 2010’s heartbreaking elimination in the hands of the Blue Skies but the first half brace from De Arrascaeta killed their chance to qualify at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Ghana fans were in disbelief at what they saw from their team in the first half.

They thought Uruguay would be a walkover, a revenge of sorts, with Andre Ayew missing vital penalty to repeat Asamoah Gyan’s record.

However, the Uruguayans two goals send them nowhere due to South Korea’s shocking 2-1 win over Portugal.

The two-goal lead left them vulnerable to the possibility of a South Korea winner, yet Diego Alonso took off Suarez and De Arraescata and they just seemed to settle for 2-0. They’re showing some urgency now, but it’s as if they didn’t have a plan for what would happen if they needed a third.

It looked like it would be enough for Uruguay to qualify for the last 16 until Hwang Hee-chan netted a 91st-minute winner to send South Korea through, leaving Luis Suarez to end the tournament in tears.

Both Ghana and Uruguay have crashed out of the 2022 World Cup.

Portugal topped the group with six points and they will fave the runners-up from Group G.
