The transfer saga of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is one of the major stories in Ghana Sports now.
There are strong signs that the forward would leave Accra Hearts of Oak in January. It has been his dream to play outside Ghana according to reports.
And the conditions of the new contract between Barnieh and Hearts are hard to process.
Reportedly, the club has agreed to double his pay but there is no hope that the player will stay.
However, the club’s board chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has disclosed in an interview with Joy FM that they have not even had the opportunity to sit down with the player.
“We have not even had the opportunity to sit down with him. Whenever you call him he’ll give an excuse and because he gets invited to the national teams he’ll tell you that we are going here and when we come back I’ll sign.”
The Ghanaian striker’s decision to choose a better contract rather than playing for Hearts of Oak makes practical sense but the fans and the club will be worried to lose their starboy for free.
Now more than ever, it seems destined that Barnieh will not play for Hearts of Oak again. With huge offers coming from Europe and Asia, the player looks closer than ever to leave.
