Fatawu Mohammed has finally disclosed that he has been instructed to leave Accra Hearts of Oak on a permanent exit.
As reported on Wednesday, the Rainbows have informed three players featuring Fatawu Mohammed, Mohammed Alhassan, Junior Kaaba and Daniel Kodie to find a new club.
The Phobian captain has now revealed that those reports are true.
And, due to that he may leave the club after eleven years.
“It is true. I’ve been instructed to find a club. They invited me to the office and I was informed that our new coach says I am no more in his plans. I also accepted and said no problem. Former Hearts of Oak Captain, Fatau Mohammed told the leading sports website in Ghana, Ghanasportspage.com.
“I have one year left on my contract with the club. Maybe we will discuss terms and conditions next week but for now, they’ve notified me to leave.
“It does not affect me. In terms of football, that’s how it is and I understand. Some will go and others too will come, and it does not affect me because I am the first player to play for the club in almost eleven years, and am happy about that.
“To me, I have set a record and I am a legend at Accra Hearts of Oak in the local league. I won about five trophies for the club. For me leaving the club, I see it as a different challenge I am going to face and it is part of our job,” he added.
The 30-year-old defender joined the Rainbows eleven years ago from Real Tamale United.
Mohammed played a key role in the club’s league and Cup double during the 2020/21 season before winning the President’s Cup and the FA Cup last season.
His performances earned him a senior national team call-up and marked his debut against South Africa in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
He has one year left on his contract with the Rainbows but may leave the club in January.
