Accra Lions failed to claim the maximum points back from the World Cup break.
They played out a 1-1 draw at their new home ground, WAFA Park in Sogakope.
Both teams had chances to change the result but neither could find the back of the net after the first two goals as the points were shared on matchday nine.
The first goal of the game came for FC Samartex in the eleventh minute courtesy of Giyasu Ibrahim’s perfect strike.
But they couldn’t wrap up the first half with the lead. It took Accra Lions 30 minutes to restore parity when Hagan Frimpong rose to head home David Oduro’s cross in the 41st minutes.
Accra Lions, who were aiming to occupy the first place of the league table had more possession and more shots in the in the second half, although neither team really did enough to deserve to take a lead again.
Both teams will now switch their attentions to week 10 as Samartex prepare to host Dreams FC, while Accra Lions will travel to Tarkwa to face Medeama SC.
Currently, Accra Lions FC rank 3rd, while Samartex hold 12th position.
