League leaders, Aduana Stars and second placed Asante Kotoko meet again on Sunday at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa, 8 months after their Premier League match which ended in a 1-1 draw. The league leaders, Aduana Stars are approaching this clash after a victory over Great Olympics in the Premier League on December 20.
Meanwhile, the Porcupine Warriors will approach the match in a good mood as well after claiming a 2-1 win in the Premier League against Berekum Chelsea. However, Asante Kotoko have been performing poorly in defense lately as they have been conceding goals in five consecutive matches now in the Ghanaian topflight and the MTN FA Cup.
The two sides have met 6 times since February 2020. The league leaders, Aduana Stars have won twice, 3 matches ended in a draw while Asante Kotoko have won once. The most recent match between them took place on May 8, 2022 which ended in a draw – 1-1. Aduana Stars have scored 3 goals in these 6 head-to-head matches in total and Asante Kotoko have also scored 3. So, overall, Aduana Stars have a better head-to-head record against Asante Kotoko in their recent history.
Aduana Stars have won 6 of their 9 matches in the Premier League, drawing 1 and having 2 defeats this season. They have scored 12 goals – 1.33 per match, conceding 8 – 0.89 per match.
The Porcupine Warriors have had what we could call a mixed start to the 2022/23 campaign – 5 wins, 2 draws, and 2 defeats in the Premier League.
Just before the international break, Kotoko’s trip to Tamale resulted in a 2-1 defeat against RTU.
Asante Kotoko will be at a disadvantage going into this game without their first choice goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim, Augustine Agyapong and Sheriff Mohammed – the trio are on national duty with the Black Galaxies in Egypt.
Kotoko’s record against the Fire Boys isn’t positive when playing as an away side – they have won only one game in Dormaa in the last decade.
Aduana Stars are currently leading the league with 19 points, while Kotoko rank second with 17 points.
The likes of Derrick Afeson, Sam Adams, Joseph Addo, Emmanuel Gyamfi are all available for selection whiles Yussif Mubarick, Geoges Mfegue, Steven Mukwala and Justice Blay look set to start for Kotoko. TRhe Reds are without Sherif Mohammed, Danlad Ibrahim and Augustine Agyapong – the trio are on national duty with the Black Galaxies in Egypt.
The tie is scheduled for 3pm and will be live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247.
