Rashid Nortey’s contract with Medeama SC has officially expired and he is available on a free transfer, Ghanasportspage.com can confirm.
The 27-year-old midfielder joined the GPL side in 2017 and became one of the best midfielders in the local league.
Nortey had ten appearances in the Ghanaian top-flight during his first season with the Mauve and Yellow side. He made his debut in a 3-2 loss to Liberty Professionals, coming on in the 82nd minute for Eric Kwakwa.
He produced some scintillating performances in the 2020/21 season and earned a maiden call-up to the Ghana national team under Coach CK Akonnor. The most memorable one came on 27 November 2020 as he was adjudged the man of the match after an impressive performance in a 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko.

Rashid Nortey made more than 20 appearances in each of the 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 seasons and although his tallies dropped below 20 in the last term, he remained a highly regarded member of the squad. The owner of the club, Moses Parker never tired of praising his professional attitude and positivity but began to fall out of favour having turned down contract extension with the club.
He has had just two starts this season and 95 minutes overall since the start of the ongoing campaign. His two appearances of the season came as he played just 45 minutes in their game against Aduana Stars and 50 minutes against Kotoku Royals.
Nortey has not indicated where he would want to go, though he has stated earlier that he would love to play outside the country.
What makes Rashid Nortey different?
What makes Nortey different from all other midfielders in the Ghana Premier League is his ability to resist the press, rarely loses the ball and is never in a hurry, he waits for the right angle and makes the right pass at the crucial moments.
