Accra Hearts of Oak defender, Caleb Amankwaa has left Ghana to join the Black Galaxies ahead of the CHAN tournament in Algeria.
The Phobian defender has been named in Ghana’s final 28-man squad for the tournament, taking the total tally of Hearts of Oak players invited for the tournament to six (6). He is joining the likes of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Denis Nkrumah Korsah, Gladson Awako, Konadu Yiadom and Seidu Suraj.
Coach Annor Walker initially, excluded him from his provisional 40-man squad and spent months in Prampram before it was subsequently trimmed down to the final one to leave for Egypt’s training tour.
Amankwaa’s late call-up came on Thursday morning before their game against King Faisal.
He was among the Phobian squad that were held to a goalless draw with Alhaji Grusah’s side at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, helping his side to maintain their position in the top four.
The 25-year-old has been consistent since last season for the Rainbow Club and his start to the ongoing campaign has been an explosive one so far, having netted two goals in seven appearances in all competitions.
His late minutes’ strike on Sunday helped the Accra giants to secure a 3-2 success over Tamale City in Cape Coast.
The tournament officially starts today and Ghana will play its first game against Madagascar on Sunday before Morocco and Sudan in Group C.
