Referee Franklin Akumatey who officiated the Bibiani Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko game last Monday in the ongoing Ghana Premier League has offered a sincere apology for his performance in the game.
Bibiani Gold held the defending champions to a 1-1 result at the Duns Park in Bibiani. Many lovers of the game believe some decisions from the center were awkward and did not help the free flow of the game.
In an interview with Kessben FM in Kumasi, Franklin Akumatey has admitted some of his calls were very wrong on the day and stretched some calls would have been rescinded if the Video Assistant Replay was to be available on the match day.
“I apologize for the errors and the truth is, they were human errors and never intend doing such a thing in the game. Both players jumped in the air and the header from the attacker to me touched the hand of Justice Blay, the kotoko defender.” -he said
“I’ve not been myself since after the game on Monday and i apologize to the fans and the entire Kotoko people for my error and some decisions that went against them in the game”- he stated
Meanwhile, the match review panel of the Ghana Football Association have released a statement regarding the officiating of the referee.I’ve not been myself since Monday afternoon.
The work of the match review panel is aimed at improving referring on the domestic front.
