Retired Ghanaian referee, Mike Amedior has claimed that referee Franklin Akumatey, who officiated the BetPawa Premier League matchday 13 clash between Bibiani Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko which ended 1-1 will be punished despite admitting his officiating errors.
The officiating in the game raised huge debates following the controversial penalty awarded to the hosts that resulted in the equalizer five minutes after the break. The penalty was saved but a rebound was turned in through Yahaya Adraman.
The referee also awarded the Gye Nyame boys a second penalty but they failed to convert again and the fans of the visitors were worried.
However, in an interview with Kumasi-based Kessben FM he admitted his errors and rendered an apology, claiming the first penalty he awarded was a wrong decision.
Although, the Ghana Football Association is yet to announce its verdict but retired referee Mike Amedior has revealed that the referee will be punished according to the rules of the Referees Committee.
“You will be punished when you make errors. Whether it is a mistake or not, you will be punished once you have made a mistake we will punish you, he told Kessben FM.
Referee Mike Amedior also added, “He has admitted his errors but the result of the game stands. Once a team loses by your personal decisions we don’t have to forgive you. I am happy that he has apologized but we will punish him because it is a technical issue and I will continue to say if you are referee and you make such mistakes we deal with you,” he concluded.
