Kumasi Asante Kotoko are through to the round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup, thanks to Maxwell Agyemang who scored late to cut the tie short.
The Porcupine Warriors who played as the away side at their home grounds prevailed by a 2-1 win over second division side, Benab FC.
In the match today, Asante Kotoko dominated but Benab FC slowly grew into the game and showed spirit to stay in the contest.
However, the Porcupine Warriors finally took the lead through an own goal in the 17th minute before break.
The second half started in much the same vein, but Kotoko’s lead was cancelled out during the 70th minutes.
Benab continued to show resolute performance with Kotoko struggling to convert their chances.
At that stage, it was obvious that the GPL champions needed one more goal to finish the game.
With only a few minutes left, it looked like Lamptey would wrap the game up for the Porcupines, but he was denied by the goal goalkeeper of the division two side.
Suddenly, Kotoko started to show the urgency that wasn’t apparent when they were up 1-0.
Maxwell Agyemang, however, completely changed the mood of the night by scoring in the dying minutes to separate the two clubs to secure place in the last 16 of the MTN FA Cup for the Reds.
