Kwadwo Obeng Junior’s first half goal sealed a valuable 1-0 win for Accra Hearts of Oak against Medeama SC in Tarkwa.
It was a cagey affair to begin with, neither side managed to find their rhythm or fashion any clear cut chances.
However, the Rainbows made their intentions clear in search of their first win in Tarkwa since 2016.
Medeama registered the first shot on target after eleven minutes as they started to grow into the game.
The hosts tried to press Hearts high up the pitch, but the Rainbows continued to play out from the back, leading to some good moves.
Hearts of Oak finally found the breakthrough after 32 minutes through Obeng Junior.
Medeama had a much better second half, pressing high but again they ultimately failed to create any big chance.
Hearts remained switched on without the ball, defended resolutely and ultimately managed to see the game out and earn three valuable points to redeem themselves from last weekend’s shocking FA Cup exit after losing 1-0 to Dreams FC in Accra.
Coach Slavko Matic handed Linda Mtange his first start since joining the Rainbows. He pushed his side further up the pitch before he was replaced by Faisal Adams who also made his debut in the second half.
The win moves them joint top of the BetPawa Premier League with 24 points alongside Aduana Stars.
