Dreams FC claimed a vital win over Asante Kotoko in the BetPawa Premier League matchday 17 clash, outplaying the Porcupine Warriors with a 2-0 scoreline in Dawu. Goals from Aholou Gael Avocevou and Agyenim Boateng helped Dreams FC to snatch this win to wrap up the first half of the season.
It was a very ordinary and uninspired performance from Asante Kotoko, who had secured an impressive 4-0 win over Accra Lions at home after their 1-0 defeat to Karela United. Despite dominating possession, the Porcupine Warriors never really looked like scoring. And in the end, it was a well deserved win for the home side.
Dreams FC ended the first half with a goal lead courtesy of Aholou Gael Avocevou’s 12 minutes strike.
The second half was more of the same with Kotoko possessing but Dreams FC looked dangerous. Agyenim Boateng Mensah then scored on the 61st minute to make it 2 for the home side.
Coach Seydou Zerbo named his Black Galaxies trio Danlad Ibrahim, Sheriff Mohammed and Augustine Agyapong in his starting XI with Steven Mukwala also leading the line alongside Georges Mfegue.
Rashid Nortey and Richard Boadu were also in the set-up but the Porcupine Warriors failed to snatch the maximum points.
The defeat comes as a huge blow for Kotoko, who have slipped up away from the second place to third – leaving them five points behind leaders Aduana Stars and one behind their rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
Up next for Coach Seydou Zerbo’s side is another away game against Nsoatreman FC on week 18.
